Environmental Outcomes

The Central Florida study demonstrated that the current, unplanned growth patterns would result in devastating sprawl— completely overwhelming the ecosystems that provide the region’s quality of life, attract millions of tourists and give the region its unique character—as well as creating infrastructure and institutional capacity problems, water shortages and pollution. Leadership, working through the MG&A process, created a series of regional priorities that were used to define Central Florida’s Regional Resolves for the Future.

In 2007 they launched the “How Shall We Grow?” initiative based on the MG&A study that has resulted in a regional consensus on a development plan that shifts development priorities to metro hubs and transit corridors, allowing denser development and increased preserved natural areas to weave together. A congress of regional leaders is working to make this “Green Print” a reality.
